Representatives from European University Cyprus – CERIDES (EUC-CERIDES), visited Imperial College’s Hazelab (IMPERIAL) in London. The Hands-On Short Training Course (HOT-2) aimed to disseminate fire science expertise from IMPERIAL and exchange knowledge on science communication, research, management and administrative practices. The goal of the 3-day visit was to engage in hands-on training and discussions, exploring IMPERIAL’s research framework and its potential application within EUC-CERIDES.
To ensure the successful completion of the Hands-On Training (HOT), included in SEMEDFIRE’s Work Package 3 (WP3) actions, key staff from IMPERIAL provided insights into their research management and administrative practices:
– Dr. Marta Archanco, Head of Research Impact Management Office
– Andrea Bell, Head of EU Team
– Shaun Power, Engineering Research Services Manager
EUC-CERIDES representatives included:
– Dr. Andri Christoforou, Head of EUC Research Office and EUC’s EURAXESS Service Center
– Maria Sivakka, Head of Financial Support at CERIDES
From December 5-7, 2023, Dr. Christoforou and Mrs. Sivakka participated in several knowledge-transfer sessions covering:
– Science Communication and Research Impact
– Formulation and Leadership of Research, Management and Administration teams for EU projects
– Research Services with a focus on Fire Engineering
Additional highlights included:
– A meeting with Rob Gazzard from the UK Forestry Commission, discussing wildfire operator training.
– A presentation by Prof. George Boustras on SEMEDFIRE and EUC-CERIDES, to IMPERIAL academics and students.
– One-to-one training on fire models conducted by Prof. Guillermo Rein from IMPERIAL’s Hazelab, with assistance from his team.
This hands-on training facilitated a valuable exchange of expertise, enhancing the collaborative efforts between IMPERIAL and EUC-CERIDES.
